An inadequate water supply system has left Congo’s capital Kinshasa with fierce water shortages despite its proximity to the Congo River, IPS News reported.

Cleanup began Monday in Gatineau, Quebec, for hundreds of people forced to evacuate after heavy rains flooded the area, UPI reported, citing Canadian weather experts.

Water projects are slipping down the aid agendas of donor countries under the millennium development goals, the Guardian reported, citing new research by the charity WaterAid. The study warns that more than 1 billion people will not get the basic sanitation and the clean water promised as such projects shrink as a proportion of global aid budgets.

The Lakes System in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya, the Ningaloo Coast in Australia and the Ogasawara Islands in Japan have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, according to ENS Newswire.

About 15 metric tons of radioactive water were discovered on Tuesday to have leaked into the ground from Japan’s crippled Fukushima nuclear plant, the latest in a series of leaks at the facility, Reuters reported, citing Japan’s nuclear.
