Water bottlers face growing opposition
MCCLOUD, CALIFORNIA — Nestle’s plans to build a water bottling facility that will pump up to 521 million gallons of water a year from the mountainside springs above this small Northern California town is encountering growing opposition from scientists, fishermen, conservationists and some members of the community.
The area desperately needs an economic boost and more jobs, but there is controversy as to whether the environmental tradeoff may be too high.
