Desalination Costs Less Than Shipping Water In Australia
DARWIN, Australia – In a bid to prevent a resource grab in Australia’s Northern Territory, researchers at the Charles Darwin University’s symposium on water have reported that shipping water from the “Top End” will be too costly. Instead, environmental and ecological economist Adam Drucker proposed building desalination plants closer to where the water was needed.
When comparing the cost of desalination to shipping, Ducker said, “essentially, [shipping] would cost you about five times as much as current desalination.”
