Great Lakes Compact, Committed to Care of Congress, Receives Presidential Support
The Great Lakes Compact, a treaty that would prevent a majority of outside interests from diverting water from the Great Lakes Basin, is predicted to receive a hospitable hearing from Congress and has already been recognized with an executive head nod on Capitol Hill.
According to a broadcast by Chicago Public Radio, the Compact will be presented before the Senate on Wednesday. President George W. Bush encouraged Congress to sign the treaty without delay.
