Pending Legislation Would Regulate Brackish Water in New Mexico
SB262, the bill that would have given the Office of State Engineer regulatory authority over deep drilling for brackish water, got bottled up as a result of opposition from energy interests, afraid that it might bite them, according to Carlos Cisneros, the Northern New Mexico Democrat who sponsored the bill for the state engineer’s office.
