Australian winemaker turns waste water into winning wines
MCLAREN VALE, Australia – In South Australia’s parched outback, award winning wines are being grown with the help of recycled water. World winning winemaker Michael Fragos pioneered the idea of waste water reclamation nearly 5 years ago. Since, the practice has spread to other small vineyards throughout McLaren Vale.
“I think the severity of drought here in South Australia has made people realize that we have to look beyond using drinking water to irrigate our vines,” Amy Richards, the viticulture officer at the McLaren Vale Grape Wine Tourism Association said. “We have to get over the ‘ick’ factor with reclaimed water.”
